This feature lets you search an online index of the Ohio Wesleyan Magazine and the Ohio Wesleyan Alumni Quarterly. The index excludes entries from Alumni, Monnett, and Odevene Club News, Class (Roll Call) Notes, Marriages, and Births/Adoptions. Questions concerning the spelling of names were resolved, where possible, using student cards which are located in the OWU Historical Collection, commencement programs, and/or Alumni Directories. Do not assume that attempts to distinguish among individuals with the same or similar names have been completely successful. Except for OWU employees, no attempt has been made to cross-reference maiden and married names.
To search the index:
When searching for people by both first and last name, you should enter the name as "Last, First" in the Name text box.
If you enter search terms in both the Name and Subject text boxes, then results will be limited to entries that match both search terms. For example, searching for the name "Merrick Hall" and subject "photo" will limit your results to a list of index entries for photos of Merrick Hall.
To give you an idea of the range of subjects, here is a partial list of common search terms that appear in the Subject column:
Alumni Award Football Retirement
Alumni Board Golf Schedule
Alumni Event Hall of Fame Season
Announcement Honorary Degree Soccer
Author Lacrosse Swimming
Baseball Listing Tennis
Basketball Obituary Track
Cross Country Photo Trustee
Faculty Record

Q: What's the best way to search the magazine index?
A: To get more complete results, conduct two searches -- one for name and one for subject -- for each of your terms.
Q: How do I change the number of search results I see on each page?
A: Use the Limit results to this many rows dropdown menu to increase or decrease the number of search results you see on each page.
Q: How do I search magazines that were printed after Winter 2009?
A: More recent magazines are available in PDF format at the OWU Magazine Archives. If you have Adobe Reader or some other PDF reader installed, you can click on a thumbnail image or title link to open the PDF.
To search in Adobe Reader: Enter your term in the "Find" box on the toolbar and hit enter. Use the forward ("Find Next") and back ("Find Previous") arrows next to the "Find" box to navigate to pages containing your term. To see a list of all of the results from your term search, click on the binoculars icon in the toolbar and enter your term in the corresponding "Search" box. Click on the items in the list to navigate through the PDF.
Q: How can I view material of interest in magazines printed before Winter 2006?
A: Currently, older magazines are available only in print format. Print copies may be viewed in Special Collections. To book an appointment, use the Book an appointment link on the Special Collections web site, or contact historicalcollection@owu.edu.
Q: Who prepared all of this?
A: Index entries were manually researched and compiled by Anne Fry, Professor Emerita of Zoology.
